#8 Clean Laundry + When a Friend Reaches Out
Morning Reflection
There’s something about the smell of clean clothes that makes me happy. I can walk into a room where freshly laundered sweaters or yoga pants are spread out to dry in the sun coming through the window, and the sweet scent of the soap fills the air, and my heart swells. Maybe it has something to do with a memory from when I was little. We lived in a small Craftsman bungalow in Glendale, California, where our washer and dryer were in our little galley kitchen. And in that tiny kitchen next to an equally tiny living room was where my mom did all the laundry. The scent of laundry soap filled the small house like a feather floating on a spring breeze.
All this to say, yesterday I did laundry, and today, the light fragrance filling our house is bringing back days of a magical childhood, and for me, it’s one of this day’s ‘good things.’

Gratitude
A friend from one of the art communities I belong to reached out today with a kind, uplifting message that I’m jotting down as one of today’s ‘good things.’ It doesn’t take much to message someone you know who is going through something. And yes, I am going through a bit of an identity crisis with my art. It’s not a huge deal. It happens to many artists just as it occurs to people in other professions, relationships, and life. It is a period of growth and change. And, as they say, the only things as sure as death and taxes are growth and change. So, I’m embracing it and seeing where this growth and change will take my art and me as a person.
Anyway, my artist friend Josee reached out to me with some encouraging words, and I can’t express how much it uplifted my spirits. Yes, I’m managing this period of change, but how wonderful it is to know that someone took time out of their day to check in with me and send words of encouragement to keep moving forward to discover where this seismic activity in my craft will take me.

Dear readers, if you can be a Josee for someone today, do it. The least you’ll do is put a smile on someone’s face.
Now, I’m off to see where my art will go today.
See you tomorrow!
