#30: The Little Things We Do For One Another
Reflections
In the wake of our family's recent loss, I traveled to support my mother during this profound time of grief, which has been both emotionally challenging and physically exhausting. On top of that, I’ve been grappling with an agonizingly prolonged episode of acid reflux. Just a few days before we left home, I made a significant overhaul to my eating habits in hopes of curtailing the acid production and nurturing my insides back to health. My diet has been remarkably monotonous for the past week, consisting solely of creamy oatmeal, smooth apple sauce, soft Naan bread, and plenty of plain water. While I generally savor each of these foods, the relentless repetition has turned my meals into a tedious routine. The prospect of facing yet another bowl of oatmeal or a spoonful of apple sauce has become daunting.
Gratitude
When Kevin returned from his afternoon grocery shopping trip, I couldn’t help but notice the delightful sight of banana bread peeking out from one of the bags. Instantly, my heart swelled with joy, and a bright, genuine smile spread across my face, lifting my spirits instantly. This wasn’t just any banana bread; it was a special treat he knew I had been craving. Kevin had gone out of his way to pick it up for me, fully aware of the tedious, monotonous diet I’ve been struggling with lately due to my health challenges.
In that moment, I felt a profound sense of appreciation for him. This simple act was a testament to his love and thoughtfulness. He always seems to know just what I need, especially when I’m feeling down. Moments like these remind me of the vows we exchanged—through sickness and in health. I am endlessly grateful for his unwavering support and the small gestures that mean the world to me, reaffirming that love truly shines through in the little things we do for one another.
See you tomorrow!
